After an investigation, Sixth Squad detectives arrested Leroy Jones at the Sixth Precinct in Selden, police announced tonight.
Jones, 27, of 44 Smith Lane, Middle Island, was charged with Aggravated Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Personal Injury, police said.
Jones will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday, Jan. 6.

Man Flees Car Wreck and Shoots at Cop
According to police, the suspect was driving a 2020 Volvo sedan southbound on Wellington Road in Middle Island at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, when he struck the passenger side of a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder traveling westbound on Middle Country Road.
A Sixth Precinct officer in a marked vehicle responded to the scene. When the officer arrived, the driver of the Volvo fled the scene on foot and the officer ran after him, according to police.
During the chase, the suspect fired a handgun at the officer and missed, police said. The officer returned fire and continued the pursuit. The suspect remains at large at this time.
The driver of the Nissan and passenger were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Police described the suspect only as an adult male.
