BOHEMIA, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — Pastor Meint Ploegman, 65, of Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Bohemia has died following the critical injuries he sustained after falling while cleaning gutters at the church this past Sunday.

The church announced Ploegman's death on its Facebook page Thursday.

"The Orthodox Presbyterian Church together with the Ploegman family would like to thank the Connetquot Community for their incredible outpouring of love and support throughout this difficult week as we lost our beloved Pastor Ploegman in a tragic fall," the church wrote on Facebook.

The message continued, "It was Pastor Ploegman's deepest joy and honor to humbly serve those in need in our community - and the many, many messages of love and stories of how he touched your lives has been of great comfort to us all."

As OnSachem News reported, Ploegman fell approximately 10 feet to the ground while cleaning the gutters, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. A church member found Ploegman on the church grounds at 906 Church St. shortly before 11 a.m. and called 911, police added. Ploegman was taken to South Shore University Hospital — which was most-recently known as Southside Hospital — in Bay Shore, where he had been listed in critical condition.

A funeral service was be held in honor Pastor Ploegman Thursday evening. The service was live streamed. A replay is available here.
