Man found lying on Sunrise Highway, who later died, could be a hit-and-run victim: Police

BAY SHORE, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — The man found lying on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, who was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, has been identified and may have been struck by a vehicle that left the scene, Suffolk County Police announced.

On Sunday, police identified the victim as Elvis Galvez Menjivar, 27, of Bay Shore. A day earlier, at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Highway Patrol officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man, now known as Menjivar, lying in the right lane of eastbound Sunrise Highway, near Exit 43, a short distance west of Westfield South Shore shopping mall. Menjivar was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Major Case Unit detectives have been investigating the circumstances surrounding Menjivar's death.

"The investigation determined Galvez Menjivar may have been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene," police said Sunday.
