On Sunday evening, police identified the victim and announced his death.
“Gerard Gutman, 29, of Sayville, has died from his injuries following a motor vehicle crash in North Patchogue Saturday night,” police announced. “Gutman has been identified as the motorcyclist involved in the crash on North Ocean Avenue.”
The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in North Patchogue at the intersection of North Ocean Avenue (County Route 83) and Shaber Road.
According to police last Saturday night, “Edisson Chocho-Uzho was driving a 2010 Acura southbound on North Ocean Avenue, attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Shaber Road when the vehicle collided with a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling northbound on North Ocean Avenue.”
The driver of the motorcycle — whose identity at the time was being withheld pending notification of next of kin — was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said. On Sunday evening, police identified the man as Gutman and said he later died.
Chocho-Uzho, 24, of Patchogue, and a 23-year-old passenger in the vehicle were both transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police said Chocho-Uzho was issued a summons for Driving without a License and that the motorcycle and vehicle were impounded for safety checks.
