CENTEREACH, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — The unknown man was dead for about a year – and a victim of violence – when his body was found in a Centereach backyard, Suffolk County Police announced Wednesday as they released new information about the case.
As OnSachem News first reported, the investigation dates back to March 15, 2020, when police responded to 75 Jay Road at approximately 5:25 p.m. after a 911 caller reported skeletal remains had been found behind a home. The remains were taken to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to be examined.
Ten months after the discovery, police released new details, photos of the victim's sneakers and belt buckle, and an artist’s sketch of his face so the public can come forward with leads to further the investigation.
“Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives have determined the deceased was a victim of violence,” police wrote in a statement. “He was approximately 15 to 21 years old and was described as white or Hispanic, 5 feet 3 inches tall to 5 feet 5 inches tall, wearing size 4 ½ men’s sneakers. He is believed to have been dead for approximately one year prior to finding the body.”
