Coronavirus cases more than doubled in one day across Suffolk

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Suffolk County more than doubled in one day.

According to the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, 239 people tested positive for COVID-19 as of 3 p.m. today, March 19. This is an increase of 137 from the day prior.

The Department of Health is following 236 confirmed cases. The remaining three individuals have died. Testing centers have now opened on Long Island, which contributed to the number of confirmations.

The county provides the number of confirmations by township. The Sachem area includes portions of Brookhaven, Islip and Smithtown townships. Here is the breakdown of confirmed cases:

- Babylon: 28

- Brookhaven: 27

- East Hampton: 2

- Huntington: 64

- Islip: 39

- Riverhead: 4

- Shelter Island: 1

- Smithtown: 8

- Southampton: 4

- Southold: 45

- Unavailable: 17

A drive-thru testing center is now open in Suffolk County at Stony Brook University in the South Parking Lot. Testing is open for Suffolk County residents by appointments only if they have symptoms or may have come in contact with someone who tested positive. To schedule an appointment, call the New York State Department of Health at 888-364-3065. A healthcare professional will determine if testing is needed and, if so, an appointment will be scheduled.
