More quarantine-free flight options out of Long Island MacArthur Airport

RONKONKOMA, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — As New York Governor Andrew Cuomo dropped several states from the New York State travel advisory this week, the Town of Islip announced there are now quarantine-free flight routes to several parts of the U.S. from Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) in Ronkonkoma.

Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken shared that five states with nonstop or connecting service from the airport have been released from New York’s COVID-19 travel advisory list requiring quarantine for 14 days upon return to New York. This immediately affects ISP customers by making several destinations immediately available for travel without restrictions. These states include:

States are removed from the travel advisory list upon falling back below NY’s 7-day rolling average threshold of positive tests of 10%, or number of positive cases of 10 per 100,000 residents.

“This is a good day for Long Island, as travelers can begin thinking about flying again to many nonstop and connecting destinations that have been under quarantine restrictions for quite some time,” said Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “We have been innovating and preparing at the airport since this past spring, to be able to serve our customers with the highest standards of care and comfort.”

In March, ISP was the first in the country to install and activate a continuous air and surface pathogen reduction system that operates 24/7 to remove viruses and bacteria from occupied spaces, according to town officials. Additionally, the airport utilizes antimicrobial films on high-touch points throughout the terminal. The airlines serving ISP are upholding heightened disinfection standards both in the airport and onboard the aircraft.

“The hard work of our staff and the foresight of our leadership enables us to offer our customers peace of mind when returning to travel. Our facility is known for its convenience, extra space and ease of use, attributes valued more now than ever in today’s environment,” LaRose-Arken said.

“We are committed to adhering to the highest health standards including physical distancing, wearing face coverings, and frequently washing hands. We know Long Island residents are ready to prudently visit family, take a much-needed holiday, or travel for business. Removing these states from restrictions is an important step forward,” said Carpenter.
