On Friday morning, the library made the announcement on its website and social media.
"Due to a Covid-related issue, and out of an abundance of caution, the Sachem Public Library will be closed until Monday, November 23," the library wrote.
Following the announcement, Library Director Neely McCahey told OnSachem News, "A Covid-related issue is the reason why the library is closing for 72 hours for a deep cleaning out of an abundance of caution. The library is following all guidelines from the NY Forward Plan. We are in the process of contact tracing right now and it appears this case will be contained to staff."
Sachem Public Library is located at 150 Holbrook Road in Holbrook. Normally, the library would be open on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m, Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. The library is scheduled to reopen at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Library patrons in need of assistance can chat live online with a librarian while the building is closed. Go to www.sachemlibrary.org/chat-with-a-librarian.
OnSachem News has reached out to the Suffolk County Department of Health Services for more information about the current closure.
This is a developing story.
