Hanukkah menorah lighting celebration moved online

The 2019 menorah lighting gatherings were held in-person by the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce (left) and Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce (right). Each celebration was led by Rabbi Jessica Rosenthal from B'nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale.

HOLBROOK, NY, AND LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — The annual menorah lightings for several local communities will take place virtually this year in a combined online event for Holbrook and Lake Ronkonkoma in the Sachem area plus nearby Bayport / Blue Point and Oakdale.

The virtual menorah lighting will be held during the first night of Hanukkah on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. The event will be led by Rabbi Jessica Rosenthal from B'nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale.

Normally, Rabbi Rosenthal would lead separate menorah lightings for in-person community gatherings in coordination with the local chambers of commerce. OnSachem News reported on the gatherings last year led by Rabbi Rosenthal and hosted by the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce and Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic means the community gatherings will be moved online for a live event which will include watching as each community menorah is lit.
