CENTEREACH, NY — There has been a serious single-car crash on Middle Country Road in Centereach. Suffolk Police told OnSachem they believe the driver had a medical emergency.

The accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 15, on Middle Country Road near the intersection with Horseblock Road.

The accident involved a Chevrolet Tahoe—which is a large SUV—that lost control, according to an OnSachem reader at the accident location and confirmed by Suffolk County Police.

According to the OnSachem reader at the scene, the Tahoe was traveling westbound on Middle Country Road when the driver lost control, swerved across the street and traveled onto the sidewalk on the eastbound side of the road.

The observer said the driver continued along the sidewalk, struck several street signs, and crashed into a utility pole, snapping it in half.

After striking the utility pole, the Tahoe continued on its out-of-control path. It entered the parking lot of Island Car Wash and finally stopped when it crashed into a second utility pole.

Suffolk Police said the driver is a 47-year-old female. Her name has not been released. Police said it appeared she had a medical emergency, which led to losing control of the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
