Holbrook crash during snowstorm leads to DWI charge for North Bellport man: Suffolk Police

HOLBROOK, NY AND SAYVILLE, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — Just as the snow began to accumulate Thursday morning, a wreck on Sunrise Highway in Holbrook shut down the roadway for the commute. Once officers arrived, they charged a North Bellport man for allegedly driving while intoxicated, according to Suffolk County Police.

Nestor Hernandez was driving a Ford Explorer westbound at Exit 50 / Lincoln Avenue, located on the border of Holbrook and Sayville, when he lost control, struck the center median, and overturned, police said.

Hernandez, 30, of 635 Provost Ave. in North Bellport, was charged with alleged DWI, according to police.

A female passenger was taken to South Shore University Hospital (formerly Southside Hospital) in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while Hernandez and a male passenger were not injured, police said.

The crash closed westbound Sunrise Highway during the morning commute.
