Lake Ronkonkoma Woman Arrested for DWI Following Crash That Injured 10-Year-Old Holbrook Boy

HOLBROOK AND LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY ( / — A 10-year-old Holbrook boy has been seriously injured following a car crash, and now a Lake Ronkonkoma woman is under arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

The crash happened at the corner of Coates Avenue and Veterans Memorial Highway last night, Sunday, Dec. 15, according to police.

Police said it began when 23-year-old Lauren Ortiz of 8 Emerald St. in Lake Ronkonkoma drove a 2012 Honda sedan northbound on Coates Avenue past a stop sign at about 8:55 p.m.

That’s when, according to police, Ortiz crashed into the passenger side of a 2018 Honda sedan driven by Lee Kaiser Sr., 40, of Holbrook as it was traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Lee Kaiser Jr., Kaiser Sr.’s 10-year-old son, was seriously injured in the wreck, police said. The boy was in the rear passenger side seat at the time. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Kaiser Sr., his wife Adriana, 37, a passenger in the front seat, and 8-year-old daughter Alessandra, a passenger in the back seat, were transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.

Police said Ortiz was arrested and charged with allegedly Driving While Intoxicated. She is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today, Dec. 16.
