HOLBROOK, NY ( / — One year ago tonight, the Sachem community came out for the opening night of the 25th Annual Holbrook Chamber Carnival & Festival.

The annual carnival held by the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce has delighted families with rides and entertainment. The event is always a highly anticipated summertime outing with family and friends. It is held annually in the middle of August at the Town of Islip’s Holbrook Country Club along Patchogue-Holbrook Road.

However, this year, the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has changed most aspects of everyday life. Like the cancellation of many popular community events, the 26th Annual Carnival & Festival isn’t happening this year.

This means no carnival rides, no fair food, no entertainment, and no fireworks displays.

OnSachem attended the carnival and festival last year to capture many of the most-anticipated moments.

In honor of all the hard work that goes into the festival every year and to highlight some of what makes the Sachem area special, OnSachem is pleased to present a series of videos over the coming days as we look back to last year’s carnival.

We begin with the opening night on Thursday, August 15, 2019, when Morgan Tiller and Nicholas Palermo of Holbrook performed the National Anthem.

Morgan and Nicholas are June 2019 graduates of Sachem High School North in Lake Ronkonkoma. Morgan went to the Crane School of Music, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam, and Nicholas went to SUNY Cortland.

Here is their performance from a year ago tonight.
