Fifth Precinct officers responded to 9 Pine St., just north of Long Island Avenue, at about 4:55 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location. Police said the home’s lone resident, Connor Frawley, 32, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Holtsville Fire Department was activated at 4:59 a.m., according to an update the department posted on Facebook.
“Shortly after activation, first arriving Suffolk County Police Department units advised of a working residential structure fire,” the Holtsville Fire Department wrote. “Upon arrival of 2nd Assistant Chief Wayne Petry, he was notified that civilians may still be inside.”
The update from the fire department continued, “Engine 5 arrived immediately thereafter and started a search for victims and an aggressive interior attack of the fire. Members from Engine 5 located and removed one adult male occupant and one dog from the house. Both the adult male and the dog were handed off to Holtsville EMS units whereas lifesaving medical interventions were administered. The adult male was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and the dog was taken to a local animal hospital.”
The adult male, alter identified at Frawley, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature, police said.
The Holtsville Fire Department received mutual aid from the Farmingville Fire Department, Holbrook Fire Department, and the Ronkonkoma Fire Department in Lake Ronkonkoma.
