LAKE GROVE, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — The Lake Grove storefront that most recently served as the home of Best Market – and previously Burlington Coat Factory – has been transformed into Long Island’s newest Lidl supermarket.
Lidl will open the Lake Grove location to the public for the first time at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The newest Lidl is located at 2900 Middle Country Road, just west of Hawkins Avenue.
“Lake Grove, get ready for high-quality groceries at really low prices,” Lidl wrote on Facebook. “We’re officially opening on 11/11– meet us at 2900 Middle Country Road for ribbon cutting, giveaways and a DJ.”
German-based Lidl bought the Best Market chain in January 2020, and plans to convert the stores to the Lidl brand and expand across Long Island over the next 2-3 years. The Lake Grove Lidl marks the company’s ninth location on Long Island.
Lidl opened another location just two weeks ago, on Oct. 28, at 4560 Sunrise Highway in Oakdale, as OnSachem News reported. Attending the Oakdale grand opening, Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said, “We welcome Lidl to the Town of Islip, and to Long Island. The opening of this and other Lidls will provide jobs and economic growth for our region."
Lidl is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., except holidays. The company operates over 10,000 stores in 27 countries and has a global following. The grocer describes itself as "High quality. Low prices. We're a less complicated way to shop that delivers low prices, high quality and the best shopping experience for our customers."
Many OnSachem readers will probably travel north on Hawkins Avenue toward Middle Country Road to approach the new Lidl. Here’s a local driving tip: the strip mall where Lidl serves as the new anchor store has a not-so-obvious side entrance on Hawkins Avenue, saving drivers from the traffic light at Middle Country Road. The side entrance is immediately before TB Bank, or across the street from the side entrance to Good Steer restaurant.
OnSachem stopped by the Lake Grove Lidl over the weekend to take photographs outside as the store made final preparations for its grand opening.
