LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — Sachem Schools recognized four outstanding students who were named valedictorians and salutatorians for the Class of 2021. Mackenzie Szlosek and Jayden Reilly are the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, at Sachem High School East. LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — Beginning next year, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) passengers may be able to take a train directly from Ronkonkoma to Grand Central Terminal. Crews in New York City have completed “civil construction” on the East Side Access project, an $11 billion endeavor to build a 350,000-square-foot passenger station beneath Grand Central to allow the LIRR to enter the complex. LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — Along the shoreline of Lake Ronkonkoma in celebration of Earth Day, Suffolk County officials announced a $100 million water quality investment to eliminate approximately 7,000 outdated cesspools and septic systems identified by scientists as the primary source of excess nutrients that have fouled local bays, contributing to harmful algae blooms, beach closures, and fish kills. FARMINGVILLE, NY — Sachem Central School District reported 65 additional COVID-19 infections over the latest 10-day reporting period between April 7 and 16. Across the district's 10 school buildings, 41% of the new positives came from just one school — Sachem High School East in Farmingville.
