JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., will close the Chase Bank branch at 601 Portion Rd., the company announced to customers.
A sign on the door photographed by OnSachem News reads, “CLOSING SOON. On Monday, March 22, 2021, at 12 p.m., this branch will close.”
OnSachem News contacted JPMorgan Chase Bank corporate headquarters about the upcoming closure.
“Sometimes we close branches when foot traffic is low or when others are nearby,” Chase spokesperson Briana Curran told OnSachem News. “In this case, there are three surrounding branches less than two miles away from the Lake Ronkonkoma branch. All impacted employees will relocate to one of the nearby branches.”
The sign displayed at the closing branch directs customers to Chase Bank at 130 Portion Rd., which is approximately 1.4 miles west – or a seven-minute drive in moderate traffic. This remaining branch is next to Panera Bread and near Kohl’s and Wendy’s, between Hawkins Avenue and Ronkonkoma Avenue.
The area surrounding the closing branch had several new businesses open in recent months and years, including Chipotle Mexican Grill, Jersey Mike’s, Planet Fitness (read story), and Philly Pretzel Factory (read story). Serving as an anchor store in the immediate vicinity, ShopRite opened in Lake Shore Plaza, replacing the long-vacant and bankrupt Waldbaum’s. Just to the west, Regal Ronkonkoma movie theater is temporarily closed because of the pandemic.
