Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini today announced the guilty plea of a Bloods gang member to attempted murder and other charges in connection with a shooting inside an IHOP restaurant in Lake Ronkonkoma on March 4, 2019.
“This defendant is a dangerous gang member who poses a clear threat to the safety of our communities,” Sini said. “He showed no regard for human life when he fired multiple rounds in a crowded family restaurant, attempting to murder his intended target and endangering the lives of several bystanders in the process.”
Deontrae Green, 20, of Islandia, pleaded guilty yesterday to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a B violent felony; Assault in the First Degree, a B violent felony; Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, a B violent felony; two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a C violent felony; and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a D felony.
At approximately 1:20 p.m. on March 4, 2019, Green and an associate entered the IHOP, located at 339 Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma. There were approximately 23 additional patrons in the restaurant at the time, including a family with an infant in a high chair sitting directly across from Green.
Within five minutes of Green’s arrival at the IHOP, a group of individuals exited their booth and walked past Green on their way out of the restaurant. Green took out a .40 caliber Glock handgun and fired five rounds of shots at the individuals, one of which struck a male victim in his 20s.
The victim was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for the non-life threatening gunshot wound.
More than 50 Suffolk County Police units responded to 911 calls reporting multiple shots being fired at the IHOP. The first units were on scene within one minute and ten seconds of the call being dispatched.
Green fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by police at approximately 1:38 p.m. on Patchogue-Holbrook Road.
Suffolk County Police Canine Section officers recovered the handgun from a wooded lot located near 321 Portion Road. Video surveillance revealed that Green had been in the vicinity of the lot after fleeing the IHOP.
Green is scheduled to be sentenced by Suffolk County Court Judge Anthony S. Senft, Jr. on Feb. 21. The Court indicated that Green will be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison with five years of post-release supervision.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Melissa Turk, of the Enhanced Prosecution Bureau.
