HOLTSVILLE, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — Expect the Friday morning drive and walk outside your home to be treacherous. The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement at 5:17 a.m. for Long Island. The weather service stressed "Extreme caution should be taken if traveling early this morning."
Forecasters said areas of freezing drizzle and pockets of light freezing rain will mix with or change over to light snow until approximately 7:30 or 8:30 a.m.
"Many locations remain in the mid to upper 20s, which will result in icy conditions, especially on untreated roadways and walkways," according to the National Weather Service.
Meanwhile, the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. The forecast for much of Friday calls for mixed precipitation, additional snow accumulations of up to one inch, and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
The latest treacherous weather follows the snow accumulation from Thursday. According to weather observers for the National Weather Service, Holtsville had 4.6 inches by 4 p.m., and Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma had 3.7 inches by 2 p.m.
