Meet the candidates: OnSachem profiles residents running for the Board of Education

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY (OnSachem.com / OnTownMedia.com) — Eight Sachem residents are running for three open seats on the school board during the June 9 election, which will be held by absentee ballot. OnSachem invited all eight candidates to participate in a profile. Seven candidates responded by the publication deadline. OnSachem is pleased to present all the profiles below. 

The eight candidates are:

  1. Matthew Baumann
  2. Larry Collins
  3. Kristin Gelzinis
  4. Carol Locklin
  5. James Mancaruso
  6. Rob Scavo
  7. Jon Siegel
  8. Stephanie Volpe

There are nine seats on the school board. Terms for three seats end on June 30. The three seats are presently held by Larry Collins, James Mancaruso and Dorothy Roberts. Collins and Mancaruso are running for reelection.

The election will be conducted only by absentee ballot in accordance with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive order because of the pandemic. Sachem's District Clerk Allison Florio previously said registered voters in Sachem can expect the absentee ballots to begin arriving to their mailboxes around May 27. The completed absentee ballots must be received by Sachem Schools no later than 5 p.m. June 9.
