FARMINGVILLE, NY AND HOLTSVILLE, NY ( / — A staff member in Sachem Schools has tested positive for COVID-19 and traveled between three school buildings recently, the district announced Friday. This is the second COVID-19 positive case in Sachem since schools reopened on Sept. 9.

Christopher Pellettieri, superintendent for the Sachem Central School District, announced the positive case in a letter to the Sachem community.

The staff member traveled between three schools on Wednesday, Sept. 24, Pellettieri said. The buildings are Lynwood Avenue Elementary School at 50 Lynwood Ave. in Farmingville, Sagamore Middle School at 57 Division St. in Holtsville, and Waverly Elementary School at 1111 Waverly Avenue in Holtsville.

“The employee was only in each building for less than 15 minutes, socially distanced and wore a mask the entire time,” Pellettieri wrote. “Thus far the Suffolk County Department of Health has stated there is no further action to be taken in these buildings besides the typical cleaning and disinfecting we do each night and over the weekends. It is however out of an abundance of caution that I share this information with you.”

Pellettieri also said the employee is asymptomatic and doing well.

This comes after another COVID-19 positive case affecting a student resulted in an entire class being quarantined at their homes for two weeks, as the district announced on Sept 14. The student attends Chippewa Elementary School at 31 Morris Ave. in Holtsville (Read the article here).

For perspective, this is the second COVID-19 case reported in Sachem Schools within the past two weeks.
